Cost Data

The National Health System Cost databases provides information on the unit costs of health services relevent to the policy makers and analysts.The database has been developed by Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh in collaboration with with HTAIn, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and with technical support from the International Decision Support Initiative (iDSI). The cost data is measured using standardised methodology and the database also provides details on sampling, data collection and analysis. The datasets include the following:

Cost of health services in India (CHSI) study

Cost data from a national costing survey of 11 public tertiary, 30 district public and 40 private hospitals in 11 states.The states included are Jammu & Kashmir, New Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tami Nadu.Cost of health services in India (CHSI) Study data is taken from the Costing of Health Services in India Study, funded by the Department of Health Research.

Note: The methodology and results of the CHSI study have been reviewed and approved by the Technical Appraisal Committee. Further details can be found in the published studies here
Other costing studies

Cost data from 167 public sector health facilities (SHC, PHC, CHC and district hospitals) in Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Kerala and Tamil Nadu

Note: These studies report the cost of delivering health care through community health centers, primary health centers, and sub-health centers. Therefore, these estimates present the costs incurred at the level of the health system and do not include the out-of-pocket expenditure. Further details can be found in the published studies here
