Cost of health services in India (CHSI) Study data provides data from a national costing survey across 11 states. The Costing of Health Services in India (CHSI) study was funded by the Department of Health Research and carried out by
Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health PGIMER, Chandigarh in collaboration with the state level Medical Research Units of ICMR.
Cost data is provided as average unit costs by specialty for inpatient, outpatient, intensive care unit (ICU) and operating theatre service centres at current levels of capacity and re-estimated at levels of 80% and 100% capacity utilisation. Capacity utilization measures the extent to which the productive capacity of the hospital is used. Costs are adjusted to take account of under or over-utilized capacity to enable comparability. The table and figure below demonstrate the levels of capacity utilization for different levels of facilities across the sampled states. The estimated unit cost of health benefit packages defined under the PMJAY scheme are also available.
Note: The methodology and results of the CHSI study have been reviewed and approved by the Technical Appraisal Committee.
